Cooch and Taylor is pleased to announce that the Honorable Chandlee Johnson Kuhn has joined the firm as a Director in the Family Law Department after concluding her distinguished term as the Chief Judge of the Family Court of Delaware. Chief Judge Kuhn will focus on representing individuals in family law matters including, but not limited to, Property Division, Custody, Juvenile Delinquency and criminal matters. In addition, Chief Judge Kuhn will expand our alternative dispute resolution practice providing mediation and arbitration services to both general litigation and family law clients, and she will be available to assist with education, construction, and commercial litigation matters.

Serving as a judge in the Family Court for over 17 years, Chief Judge Kuhn is an innovative leader. Chief Judge Kuhn created the Juvenile Gun Court to address violent crimes throughout the state. She has lectured both locally and nationally on numerous topics including education in child welfare, addressing the unique issues of girls and reforming school discipline. Chief Judge Kuhn is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, where she serves on both the Diversity and Legislative Committees. She was also instrumental in Delaware’s partnering with Casey Family Programs to create the Education Demonstration Project, which focuses on improving educational experiences for children in the Child Welfare System. She was the founding President of the Melson Arsht Inn of Court.
Chief Judge Kuhn is a lifelong Delaware resident. She began her career as a bailiff in Family Court before attending Delaware Law School, graduating Cum Laude. Chief Judge Kuhn clerked for the Delaware Supreme Court, clerked at Richards Layton and Finger, and practiced law at Prickett Jones in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation and family law, prior to serving as a member of the judiciary.
Chief Judge Kuhn is also active in the community. She is involved in child welfare reform, domestic violence prevention and the education and wellbeing of all students in Delaware. Chief Judge Kuhn currently co-chairs the Wilmington Education Improvement Commission subcommittee on Meeting the Needs of Students in Poverty. In addition, she is a member of the Board of the Delaware Humane Association.
