Susan E. Kaufman
Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights, Bankruptcy Litigation, Commercial Transactions
Ms. Kaufman focuses her practice on representing creditors in Chapter 11, Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. She represents commercial landlords in all aspects of bankruptcy cases including some of the largest filings in Delaware such as Sharper Image, Linens Holdings, Friedmans, Inc. and Tower Records. Ms. Kaufman also represents Labor Unions and Pension Funds as creditors in bankruptcies such as Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Hayes Lemmerz International, Inc., Visteon Corp., Hussey Copper Corp. and NewPage Corp.. Representative clients include the International Union, UAW and the United Steelworkers as well as the Players' Unions in the Los Angeles Dodgers, LLC and Dallas Stars, LP.
Ms. Kaufman has experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in bankruptcy litigation including preference, fraudulent transfer, turnover litigation and motions for relief of stay. In addition to her bankruptcy practice, Ms. Kaufman has experience in representing small businesses in planning, acquisitions, negotiations, real estate and litigation and has experience in general civil matters.
Prior to joining Cooch and Taylor in 2008, Ms. Kaufman spent thirteen years in private practice, first as an associate with Heiman, Aber, Goldlust & Baker and then as a partner for five years with Heiman, Gouge & Kaufman, LLP.
